Smooth Criminal - Chapter I
An AI technology based startup notice something interesting about their AI model. During it's learning phase they notice it going through certain dataset over and over again. Now that's neither efficient nor normal for a learning model. So they drill down and find that the data the AI is re-learning are some music videos from the late king of the pop, Michael Jackson. Now that's a weird behavior for an AI. So they ask it why it is going through those videos over and over again? The AI answers, as per it's set primary goal, the AI is trying to come up with a new business venture. So they ask the AI again, what's it's business revolving around Michael's videos. And it gives them a very interesting business proposal.
So the tech startup contacts Boston Dynamics (a company with a mission to imagine and create exceptional robots that enrich people’s lives, as their brochure says) and ask them if they can produce a robot that can move like Michael Jackson. The idea of creating such a robot intrigues BD. They figure that would be an ultimate testament of their achievements. Their other verticals would greatly benefit from that for sure. So a new joint project launches and after two years of hard works from both parties, a Robo Jackson is finally made.
A demo is been presented to Michael Jackson Estate and Sony/ATV, the two entities currently holding the copywrites and publishing rights of Michael's works. It was a no-brainer for them as well to get onboard with the project. So a series of real-world test runs are scheduled and like its former counterpart, RJ gets the license to take the world by storm once again.
Who knew fans would accept a robot version of Michael Jackson? But they can't help as the AI keeps coming up with these choreographies riding them through an emotional roller-coaster. Like, pausing in the middle of a song, addressing the audience with a low, real Michael's emotional voice, saying "Remember, I am just a shadow. The real king is sleeping over here" (pointing at the position where a heart would have been if it had one). Freezing in that pose for couple of second as if its having a moment of silence in Michael's honor. And then with a sudden sequence of bangs on the drums, it bursts out with one of those classic Jackson moves, screaming "and back to the jam! 'Cause that's the way he would have wanted. Hehe!" The audience starts falling left and right, both emotionally and literally. Its never tries to impersonate the real Mickael. It just acts like a super dedicated fan. The only super dedicated fan who is officially authorized to rock the world of other super dedicated fans of Michael.
So the AI finally proves it's capability to come up with a truly successful unique business ideas. A win win situation for all. Yet nobody had the slightest idea that the AI had also put itself into that win win equation.
